Symptoms of Anxiety Attacks
Did you know that there are more than twenty symptoms which have been associated with the onset of a panic attack? These symptoms can range from shortness of breath to nausea and vomiting with the onset of the anxiety. As there are such a diverse range of symptoms it can be difficult for the patient to create coping techniques that work for all of these symptoms, therefore the treatment plan for every individual that is suffering from anxiety attacks can vary.
Here are some of the most common symptoms that can be used to identify an anxiety attack:
- Shortness of breath in the patient or tightness in the chest that can feel as if it is difficult to breathe entirely, or that can feel as if it is difficult to take a deep breath.
- Nausea and vomiting that can occur with the onset of an anxiety attack. The patient may feel as if they are anxious and have knots in the stomach that can lead to nausea and vomiting
- Feelings of overwhelming anxiety in which the patient is unsure about what is happening around them as they are only able to focus on the anxiety that is being experienced.
- Dizziness and a feeling like the individual is going to faint. This dizziness can be attributed to the increase in blood pressure and the decreased amount of oxygen that is reaching the blood and the body through the shortness of breath.
Learning to identify these symptoms can help patients to describe symptoms as well as to determine if a panic attack truly is being experienced.
